Short description: Destruction of persistent organic pollutants and immobilization of heavy metals and radionuclides in contaminated matrices by mechanochemical treatment has been demonstrated in several studies that illuminate the versatility of high-energy ball milling technology in the detoxification of contaminated soil. In this review, scientific and technological aspects of polluted soil mechanochemical treatment are discussed along with an economic feasibility study using technical and cost data obtained by constructors.
