Organisation Outline:
Cranfield University at Silsoe takes a multi-disciplinary research approach to sustaining the world’s medical, environmental, natural and agricultural 
resources. Areas of expertise include environmental scientists working with economists, biologists with marketeers, agricultural engineers with legislation
specialists, and soil experts with IT professionals. There are three research institutes at the Silsoe campus : Institute of Water and Environment (IWE);
Insitute of BioScience and Technology (IBST); National Soil Research Institute (NSRI). NSRI research includes aspects of soil and land use systems and their management to provide innovative and manageable solutions; Monitoring, assessing
and surveying land and soil resources to provide accurate data for planning purposes; Problem-solving and advising practitioners on effective land and soil
management. http://www.silsoe.cranfield.ac.uk/nsri/ IWE is an international centre of excellence committed to providing practical and cost-effective solutions to the challenges of managing water for users,
consumers and the environment within the context of sustainable natural resource use. Areas of expertise include Groundwater Resources and Engineering,
Water Resources and Water Policy. Recent work includes developing groundwater vulnerability mapping methodologies. http://www.silsoe.cranfield.ac.uk/iwe/ The SENSPOL project (Sensors for Monitoring Water Pollution from Contaminated Land, Landfills and Sediments) was completed in 2004. The overall objective
was to enhance the development of chemical sensors, biosensors and biomimetic systems for practical applications in the abatement of water pollution from
contaminated land, landfills and sediment. The aim was to provide 'in situ' monitoring of environmental pollutants in water and contaminated soil and sediments,
