Meaning in EUGRIS: Finland is a republic with 6 provinces. The current Finnish Constitution was first adopted in 1919. In recent years it has been amended several times. Finland covers an area of 337,030 square kilometres and has a population of 5.2 million. The capital is Helsinki. As a member of the European Union, Finland was the only Nordic state to join the euro system at its initiation in January 1999.
