Meaning in EUGRIS: Serbia and Montenegro is a republic with two republics and 2 nominally autonomous provinces. It became independent in 1992 from the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia - now Serbia and Montenegro - formed as self-proclaimed successor to the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Serbia and Montenegro (former Yugoslavia) covers an area of 102,350 square kilometres and has a population of 10.8 million. The capital is Belgrade. Serbia and Montenegro is no member of the European Union.
