Long description: This report presents some preliminary results from the monitoring of the Carra/Mask catchment done by TCD as part of the EU-funded BUFFER project (EVK1-1999- 00094, see http://www.tcd.ie/Zoology/Project.BUFFER/homepage.html or http://www.buffers.info/ for some background information), and outlines some work planned for 2003. Monitoring of both Loughs Carra (3 sites) and Mask (4 sites), and their main inflows (16 sites), was done biweekly from July 2001 to November 2002, and has continued monthly thereafter. It is planned to cease monitoring in July 2003. Locations of the BUFFER water monitoring sites, the outlines of their respective subcatchments, and locations of river gauging plates are shown in Fig’s. 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
