Short description: The paper tries to put together the primary issues related to develop-ment of effective computer-based systems supporting decision making in integrated management of transboundary catchment areas. After making an overview of the usual assumptions and prerequisites con-cerning systems that might be used for such purposes, we present the key issues related to the decision analytic aspects of these (actual or hypothetical) systems. Some comments are forwarded concerning the use and applicability of particular – selected – methodologies. Atten-tion is particularly paid to such aspects as “comprehensiveness”, “in-tegration”, “discourse”, “participation”, “asymmetry”, “fairness” and “sustainability”, especially in view of their relation to the available methodologies.
