Short description: The measurement of groundwater flow at the small scale is vital if hydrogeologically heterogeneous systems like the hyporheic zone are to be better characterised.
Long description: The measurement of groundwater flow at the small scale is vital if hydrogeologically heterogeneous systems like the hyporheic zone are to be better characterised. In such complex systems measurements must be made at high spatial and temporal resolutions, which poses a challenge if sufficient measurements are to be made without incurring excessive cost or experimental complexity. This report reviews several current or emerging methods and technologies that may be used in studies of this kind.
