Short description: The world’s first standard to measure the greenhouse gases embedded in goods and services throughout their life cycle was launched yesterday by BSI British Standards, the Carbon Trust and the Environment Department (DEFRA) . The standard, known as PAS 2050, requires firms to calculate the greenhouse gas emissions embedded in products in a consistent way. It takes into account emissions generated from the sourcing of raw materials, during manufacturing and processing, during distribution, in the use-phase and on disposal.
