SNOWMAN was one of the first ERA-NETs launched under the 6th Framework Programme of the European
Commission for Research and Technological Development. In 2004, the ERA-NET approach was completely
new to funding organizations and the research community. Diverse hurdles have been successfully taken by
this specific network, which was the only one dealing with the topics regarding soil and groundwater.
Although some hurdles were successfully taken, SNOWMAN needed to learn some lessons in practice. For the
benefit of similar projects and approaches, SNOWMAN decided to publish the 'whole' story.
