Short description: The project concerns development of a pesticide database and programs for use in risk assessment of pesticide point sources in relation to groundwater resources. The database contains relevant data for risk assessment and prioritisation of point sources and is used directly in the risk assessment tool developed for application with GIS. 
Long description: The pesticide database contains basic data for 173 compounds with common pesticide name, CAS-no., systematic IUPAC name, and molecular formula. 61 of the 173 compounds have been found in Danish groundwater samples and for these compounds, information on the physical chemical properties of the pesticide, degradation rates under different conditions and media, chemical structures and metabolite pathways are available. The risk assessment tool is an IT-tool that allows an overall modelling of transport from the point sources to the abstraction wells in the catchment area. The tool requires GIS themes for water catchments areas and can be applied using default values for pesticides loads from typical point sources or values measured at the actual point source. Based on the data available, the risk assessment tool demonstrates the best possible description of pesticide loads in a catchment area. The advantage with the risk assessment tool is that simulation and sensitivity analyses of change in base conditions and the consequences of remedial actions can be carried out quickly. The risk assessment tool has two main menus; registration of site data and risk assessment. The site data can be updated as more information is collected which improves the predictions.
