Welcome to TechDirect! Since the June 1 message, TechDirect gained 40 new subscribers for a total of 43,937. If you feel the service is valuable, please share
TechDirect with your colleagues. Anyone interested in subscribing may do so on CLU-IN at https://clu-in.org/techdirect . All previous issues of TechDirect
are archived there. The TechDirect messages of the past can be searched by keyword or can be viewed as individual issues. TechDirect's purpose is to identify new technical, policy and guidance resources related to the assessment and remediation of contaminated soil, sediments
and groundwater. Mention of non-EPA documents or presentations does not constitute a U.S. EPA endorsement of their contents, only an acknowledgment that they exist and may
be relevant to the TechDirect audience. > Upcoming Live Internet Seminars Federal Facilities Online Academy: Federal Facility Five-Year Review - July 11, 2024, 1:00PM-3:00PM EDT (17:00-19:00 GMT). This webinar is a two-hour
course that provides an overview of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) five-year reviews. For more information
and to register, see https://www.clu-in.org/live. Evaluating and Integrating Cumulative Environmental Impacts in Superfund Human Health Risk Assessments - July 23, 2024, 3:00PM-4:30PM EDT (19:00-20:30
GMT). Superfund uses a risk-based decision framework to assess and manage human exposure to a release and the threat of a release in the environment from pollutants
and contaminants. Executive Order 12898 requires EPA to identify and address, as appropriate, disproportionately high and adverse human health or environmental
effects of its programs, policies and activity on minority and low-income populations to the greatest extent possible. This webinar will provide an overview
of the following topics: Superfund risk assessment, chemical stressors, non-chemical stressors, Environmental Justice, screening tools, and Superfund
site case studies. For more information and to register, see https://www.clu-in.org/live. Overview of Radiation and Chemical Ecological Risk Assessment Models and Guidance for Contaminated Sites and Selected Default Input Parameters - July
25, 2024, 2:00PM-3:30PM EDT (18:00-19:30 GMT). To help meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund program's mandate to protect human
health and the environment from current and potential threats posed by uncontrolled hazardous substance (both radiological and non-radiological), pollutant,
or contaminant releases, the Superfund program has developed an ecological risk assessment process as part of its remedial response program. This webinar
will describe the process and results from a research project concerning factors that could potentially attribute to adverse ecological risk for biota due
to radioactive contamination in soil or water at or near Superfund sites. This project reviewed models and guidance on assessing protection of biota to exposures
from contamination at sites issued or recommended by federal, state, and foreign governments. For more information and to register, see https://www.clu-in.org/live.
Federal Facilities Online Academy: Role of Superfund Performance Measures - August 8, 2024, 1:00PM-3:00PM EDT (17:00-19:00 GMT). This webinar is a two-hour
course that will identify the role of performance measures, including environmental indicators, how to justify their status, and how to achieve an under-control
status at Superfund sites. For more information and to register, see https://www.clu-in.org/live. > New Documents and Web Resources ITRC Releases Microplastics Outreach Toolkit! The Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC) is excited to announce the release of their new Microplastics
Outreach Toolkit! The ITRC Microplastics Team created this toolkit as a companion to the ITRC Microplastics Guidance to help regulators and others explain
issues surrounding microplastics to a variety of audiences. The toolkit includes general information on outreach along with fact sheets, presentations
and other outreach items aimed at different audiences. Materials are targeted toward the general public, the regulatory and scientific community, and decision
makers in a variety of sectors. To learn more, visit https://mp-toolkit.itrcweb.org/. Electrokinetic Enhanced In Situ Remediation Engineering Issue Paper (EPA/600/R-23/329, May 2024). EPA-ORD’s Engineering Issue Papers (EIPs) are a series
of technology transfer documents that summarize the latest information on selected waste treatment and site remediation technologies and related issues
and present it in a conveniently accessible manner to the user community. EIPs are designed to help remedial project managers (RPMs), on-scene coordinators
(OSCs), contractors, and other contaminated sites technical staff and site managers understand the type of data and site characteristics that are needed
to evaluate a technology for a specific site, as well as ways to design and optimize a technology for a particular application. This latest EIP summarizes the
current knowledge on electrokinetic (EK)-enhanced in situ remediation technologies that are available for addressing contaminants in low-permeability
(low-k) subsurface environments where conventional hydraulic delivery technologies often face challenges. View or download from https://cfpub.epa.gov/si/si_public_recor ...
Technology Innovation News Survey Corner. The Technology Innovation News Survey contains market/commercialization information; reports on demonstrations,
feasibility studies and research; and other news relevant to the hazardous waste community interested in technology development. Recent issues, complete
archives, and subscription information is available at https://www.clu-in.org/products/tins/. The following resources were included in recent issues:
• New Concept of “Release-Capture-Destruction” to Enable Remediation of PFAS in Source Zone Soils • Electrokinetic (EK) Enhanced In Situ Remediation EUGRIS Corner. New Documents on EUGRIS, the platform for European contaminated soil and water information. More than 4 resources, events, projects and
news items were added to EUGRIS in June. These can be viewed at http://www.eugris.info/whatsnew.asp . Then select the appropriate month and year for the updates
