Project objectives:
The PURE project (protection of groundwater resources at contaminated sites) aimed to: (a) provide innovative, cost effective, widely applicable solutions to prevent pollution of groundwater from industrial sites (b) bring together problem owners, service providers, end users and research and development performers and (c) develop methods and / or techniques for contaminated land management with the goal of achieving cost savings for site characterization (20 %) and site remediation (20-40%). Two presentations focused on innovative in situ techniques developed by PURE – steam enhanced soil venting and co-solvent flushing, and the PURE “ABC” decision support tool.

Project
Summary:
PURE is aimed to prevent contamination of groundwater by priority polutants from industrials sites: recalcitrant chloroorganics, BTEX abd heavy metals, innovative results wil be of wide applicabelioty being validated on three different sites. PURE includes two specific sub-projects; SICHMORE, developing cost-saving solutions to sec-scribe the contaminated site through reduction of sampling / analytical load by use of biosensors, advanced modelling and fuzzy logic; evoluted risk assessment methodologies wil also be developed as a support tool for optimal choice of remedial actions on the basis of cost and benefits; TREES, developing preferably in situ methods to treat : 1) the pollution core in the soil and prevent contamiants migration to groundwater; 2) the plume. PURE was originated within NIKILE and involoves universities , R&D performers, site owners and service providers (end users)
