Project objectives:
IWRM-NET aims to implement new research activities at the national and regional
levels related to Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) with a focus on
the Water Framework Directive.

Project
Summary:
The 17 European partners currently involved in IWRM-NET are research programme
managers and have agreed on what should be IWRM-NET by 2010.
IWRM-NET is open to new research programme managers working at national or
regional level and dealing with Integrated Water Resource Management issues.

Main IWRM-NET activities are divided into seven workpackages (WP) and include :
* The development of an appropriate Knowledge Management tool (WP1 lead by OIEau)
* The analysis of research needs (short-term WP2 lead by SNIFFER and long-term WP3 lead by the MEDD)
* The development of joint (WP2) and trans-national activities (WP4 lead by UBA-A & PTKA)
* The intensive linking with related initiatives and actors (WP5 lead by RIZA)
* The dissemination of the outcomes to the stakeholders (WP6 lead by EA).
* The project management (WP7 lead by OIEau)

Achieved Objectives:
Parts of the project initiation has been delayed to late 2006. However, its first international workshop was held in London in January 2006.

Product Descriptions:
WP1: The first version of KM tool specifications (detailing the functionalities of the tool) has been presented during a small scale workshop hold in Paris in June 2006. The participants were researchers, NGO, research programme managers, french water agencies and IWRM-NET partners.
WP2: At the launch event the discussion groups considered the various issues of
relevance for Integrated Water Resource Management. 5 discussion groups were set
up with the following topics as a basis for discussion;
Characterisation
Ecological Objectives
Pressures and Impact Assessment
Social and Economic Issues
Monitoring
WP4 : Trans-national research activities
The “Umweltbundesamt (Austria)” has - together with participants from “The
Project Management Agency, Research Centre Karlsruhe (Germany)” and the
“National Water Centre and Archives (Hungary)” - developed 2 different sets of
questionnaires one to get an overview of forthcoming IWRM-related national programmes/calls that are supposed to participate within the project and another to gather information on evaluation/dissemination procedures of relevant national
programmes as well as information that are necessary to start pilot calls.
