Contract Number: 036997
|
Organisation Type:
EC Project |
Topics:
Water and sanitation-->Water supply
|
Project objectives:
The FP6 project MEDINA started by the end of 2006 and aims to tackle
current reverse osmosis (RO) drawbacks in view to develop innovative
solutions for the major engineering components. The
|
Project
Summary:
focus of the research
activities is on raw water characterisation, pre-filtration options, RO
module settings, fouling, scaling and post-treatment and recovery of
valuables concentrates. The activities also include environmental and life
cycle assessments with the overall objective of developing an
membrane-based integrated process.
|
Achieved Objectives:
•Report of critical analysis on the desalination technology
• Pre-treatment in Sea Water Reverse Osmosis system
• Environmental Impacts Assessment checklist
•A report on the current advantages and drawbacks of Membrane
Bioreactor as a pre-treatment step in the sea water and Brackish
water desalination
•Report on raising public participation and awareness
