Organisation Outline:
The Limnos company is specialized in nature conservation, environmental protection, water protection – ecological engineering and engineering ecology. The focus is on application and marketing of sustainable solutions for the protection of water ecosystems, including non-invasive green technologies for landfill restoration. It is a small-size company, with six PhD, one MSc and three BSc degree employees from biological, civil engineer (landfill specialists, hydrological engineers) and chemistry area. Since 1992 Limnos has prepared over 80 projects for Constructed Wetlands (CW) and designed and built over 40 CW on the territory of Slovenia, Italy and Croatia. They were installed to treat domestic sewage, industrial wastewaters and landfill leachate. Over 25 projects were prepared for co-natural rehabilitation of old decommissioned landfill sites with the use of vegetative tree cover system. LIMNOS was leading the EUREKA and Alpe-Adria projects on CW. It is representative of Global Water Partnership in Slovenia. The company has won several prizes for its basic and applied research on specific wastewater treatment, including Lillehammer Award 2001 for the project for constructed wetlands within EUREKA program, the Slovenian prize for the environmental product of the year 2001 and the International award of the SPRINT- European program in 1995. Limnos obtained also the Slovenian patent No. 9500262 for wastewater treatment for CW and in Croatia the patent No. 381-03/98-01/1447 for CW.
