Organisation Outline:
School of Animal and Microbial Sciences (AMS): Carries out research into the use of biochemical and molecular biomarkers to detect pollution in contaminated 
groundwaters. School of Human and Environmental Sciences (SHES): Carries out research into Groundwater Hydrology and Geochemistry, Contaminated land and Groundwater
investigation and remediation. Department of Real Estate & Planning, Centre of Planning Studies (CoPS) recently carried out research into the role of Groundwork in environmental regeneration
and the re-use of brownfield land. The Wheal Jane Project The Aquatic Environments Research Centre, which is part of the Department of Geography at the University of Reading, is a member of a multidisciplinary team
encompassing universities, industry and government organisations. The research at Wheal Jane Pilot Passive Treatment Plant is a Biological Treatment of
Soils and Water (BTSW) LINK project sponsored by the DTI in conjunction with the Environment Agency. The overall aim of the project is to understand the key (microbiological
and geochemical) processes controlling passive treatment of acid mine drainage and to use this knowledge to develop (water quality) models and software to
assist in the design and operational management of such systems. www.rdg.ac.uk/whealjane The Deptment of Geography and Deptment of Real Estate Planning are partners in Sustainable Urban Brownfield Regeneration: Integrated Management (SUBR:IM)
SUBR:IM is a major research consortium consisting of 9 research institutions working on 11 projects linking science and social science in the fields of engineering,
property and real estate, economics and planning to help tackle brownfield research problems. The research includes key stake holders from industry and national
