Organisation Outline:
The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) was incorporated as a statutory corporation in 1954 and pioneered the development of nuclear energy in the UK.
Today they are responsible for managing the nuclear reactors and other radioactive facilicities used for the UK's nuclear research and development programme in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner. Their objective is to essentially restore UKAEA sites for conventional use.
UKAEA is a non-departmental public body, funded mainly by its lead department the Department of Trade and Industry.
