Project objectives:
The primary objective of the remediation strategy was the reduction of dissolved phase benzene contamination to 1.6 mg/l or less. Considerations were also need to protect the site against recontamination from the offsite source. Additionally the remediation programme (including an allowance to obtain relevant licensing) had been designed to be compliment with the proposed construction programme and opening of a flagship store in London.

Project
Summary:
Installation of an oleophilic permeable reactive clay barrier to prevent migration of benzene plume from an adjacent gas purification plant onto site. Treatment of the hydrocarbon plume was the first commercial use in the UK of direct oxygen infusion cells installed during the construction of the new store extension as well as under the tarmac in the carpark.
