Organisation Outline:
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) was estrablished in 1999 as one of nine regional development agencies created to bring a new focus to economic development and to build prosperity across the English regions.
EEDA has a wide-ranging remit that includes: economic development and social and physical regeneration; business support, investment and competitiveness; skills and employment; sustainable development and high-quality environment; development of a clear identity and profile for the East of England. The East of England is a £73 billion economy, based on 350,000 businesses. As well as being home to many internationally and nationally renowned organisations, that vast majority of companies in the region are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) employing fewer than 250 people.
The EEDA business centre provides business support (professional advice and financial assistance) and assists in the development of business networks, encouraging collaboration and shared knowledge and expertise. Assistance is targetted to business sectors and clusters.Sectors are the nine key industry sectors: agriculture and food processing; creative industries; finance and business services; life sciences; tourism, leisure and hertiage; high-tech maufacturing; advanced engineering; ICT and transport. Clusters are independent companies operating in a specific field of industrial or economic activity, ranging from academic institutions to venture capitalists and specialist suppliers.
EEDA aims to form effective partnerships and work closely with other regional organisations is to achieve results in the East of England.
