Organisation Outline:
Detailed large-scale mapping is available for the whole of Northern Ireland from Land & Property Services (LPS). In general, urban areas are available at 1:1 250 scale (50 inches to 1 mile) and rural areas at 1:2 500 scale (25 inches to 1 mile). In addition all areas are covered by 1:10 000 or 1:10 560 scale (6 inches to 1 mile).
LPS formally Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland (OSNI)has been producing maps since 1830, the maps still retain the OSNI brand. Archive copies of most of them are available, which may be inspected by appointment and from which flat copes can be provided. Copyright exists on maps less than 50 years old.
LPS also provides an extensive range of digital vector and raster information. Vector information includes: large-scale (1:2500/1:2500) and Small Scale (1:50 000/1:210 000) maps; COMPAS (COMputerised Point Address Service)- textual records linked to the large-scale graphic database; Digital Soil Data (1: 10 000 scale); Digital Terrain Data (1:50 000 scale); CORINE Land Cover digital database. Raster information includes 13 street maps (1:10000 scale except Belfast 1:12000 and Lisburn 1:8000) and parliamentary constituency maps (1:12000 and 1:3000 scale).
