EUWARENESS is a research project on European Water Regimes and the Notion of a Sustainable Status. Research
institutes from six European countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland) have been cooperating
in this two year project (2000-2002). More information is available on www.euwareness.nl. The project is supported by the
European Commission under the 5th Framework Programme, and co-ordinated by the University of Twente in the
Netherlands.

Long description: |
The Marecchia-Conca water basin covers a total surface of 1347 sq. km (as defined by
the administrative boundaries of the Marecchia-Conca inter-regional Basin Authority
(henceforth AdB)), distributed as follows:
- 531 sq. km in the Province of Rimini (Emilia-Romagna Region)
- 96 sq. km in the Province of Forlì (Emilia-Romagna Region)
- 520 sq. km in the Province of Pesaro-Urbino (Marche Region)
- 200 sq. km in the Province of Arezzo (Toscana Region)
The water basin includes the Marecchia cone (Figure 1), the biggest hydrological sink
of the Region, accounting for more than 150 millions of cubic metres of water, which
feedsmost of the municipalities in the Province of Rimini, as well as the tourist inflows
during the peak season.
