EUWARENESS is a research project on European Water Regimes and the Notion of a Sustainable Status. Research institutes
from six European countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland) have been cooperating in this two year
project (2000-2002). More information is available on www.euwareness.nl. The project is supported by the European Commission under the 5th Framework Programme, and co-ordinated by the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

Long description: |
Lakes Baldegg and Hallwil are located in the Seetal valley in the cantons of Aargovia and
Lucerne in Switzerland’s Central Plateau. Mount Lindenberg to the east (878 m.a.s.) and
Mount Erlosen to the west (811 m.a.s.) shelter both lakes from winds. Lake Baldegg, which is
the higher of the two lakes (463 m.a.s., 5.2 km2), is mainly supplied by the river Ron. The
river Aabach flows from Lake Baldegg and supplies Lake Hallwil (449 m.a.s., 10.0 km2),
which is around twice the size of the former and lies around three kilometres away. The
Aabach river flows out of Lake Hallwil at its north end in Seengen towards its conjunction
with the river Aare in Lenzburg.
