About thousand blood samples were taken from contaminated area (Michalovce district - 1009 samples, 434 male and 575 female), and approximately equal number of samples from background area (Stropkov and Svidnik districts - 1038 samples, 402 male and 636 female) in Slovakia for PCB and organochlorine pesticides analysis. The sampling was carried out from August 20, 2001 till November 15, 2001. The whole blood samples (9 mL) taken after fasting underwent centrifugation and serum was transferred into vials and stored till the date of shipment at –18 oC to the laboratory.
