The induction of vitellogenesis in male fish, which can be diagnosed also as a vitellogenin content in blood plasma, is a significant biological marker of surface waters loading by substances with estrogenic effect. Contaminated and control sites on the Tichá Orlice river were studied during the monitoring of surface waters in the Czech Republic. Blood sampling (from v. caudalis), centrifugation and deep freezing of blood plasma were performed in situ on monitored sites. Vitellogenin concentration in trout (S. trutta) blood plasma was assessed using ELISA test Rainbow trout vitellogenin EIA kit (Biosense Laboratories, Norway). Samples of fish tissues and bottom sediments for chemical analyses and evaluation of PCB, chlorinated pesticides and PAH concentrations (in bottom sediments) were collected on monitored sites.
