Short description: |
The European Environmental Outlook report, released at the end of 2005, examines the environmental impact of key socio-economic changes within the EU. It has concluded that many long term environmental challenges remain, despite the work undertaken within current environmental policies and some successes (reductions in agricultural nutrient surpluses for example). It recommends better integration of environmental policies within other key policy areas such as transport and agriculture. It foresees diffuse pollution and individual consumption as creating significant environemntal pressures in the future as more easily regulated sources of pollution and consumption come under stricter controls.
