Short description: |
The test of the In-Well Aerator has demonstrated an effective extraction and clean-up of groundwater contaminated with dissolved chlorinated solvents. This in-situ method combines ground water pumping using a air-lift siphon and stripping of volatile contaminants from wells with low yields.
|
Long description: |
This in-situ method involves air injection into the groundwater through a aerator placed in the well which causes abstraction of groundwater from the well and stripping of volatile contaminants from the abstracted water. The cleanup efficiency has been 98.9- 99.9 %. For low yielding aquifers with a small lift height and high dissolved content of chlorinated solvents, the method is economically attractive compared to traditional pump and treat techniques both with respect to plant and production costs. The primary advantage is that it requires very little space or maintenance, but provides an effective and robust clean-up for aquifers with low and variable yields.
