No detailed characterisation of pesticide point sources exists, and therefore this design project proposes 5 interrelated subprojects as part of a coherent project plan, which can lead to a significant improvement of knowledge and enable a better economic and risk prioritisation of site investigations and remedial actions.

Long description: |
5 supplementary subprojects have been defined with a view to improving general knowledge on the consequences of point sources of pesticides for groundwater resources and specifically to improve economic and risk prioritisation of site investigation and remedial actions.
The first project proposal concerns development of a pesticide database to support risk evaluation of groundwater resources close to sites polluted with pesticides. A reliable and user-friendly database is expected to be a significant technical aid for authorities and consultants. The other projects are related to spreading of pesticides in water catchment areas and concern:
• A risk assessment tool to model spreading and loads in the groundwater magasin,
• Mapping and investigations of contaminant sites and risk assessment of specific pesticide point sources
• Development of remediation technologies for pesticide point sources
• Evaluation of the environmental economical consequences of remedial actions in a catchment area
A prerequisite for an overall success of the project is a strong integration between sub projects and technical leadership throughout the project period
