|
Short description: |
This document outlines policy recommendations designed to bring thousands of hectares of blighted land back into beneficial use on behalf of communities. The recommendations were submitted to Government in May 2007 and a decision regarding their adoption as formal policy is expected in Autumn 2007.

Long description: |
The over-arching principles National Brownfield Strategy are:
o Redevelop first, paying heed to guidance on biodiversity and flooding
o Focus efforts on urban land in towns and cities with infrastructure capacity
o Take account of full environmental impact when remediating sites
o When redevelopment is unsustainable take steps to make sites safe and tackle blight
o Apply highest design standards compatible with the economic viability of the site
o Make brownfield reuse decisions in context with the “Respect Agenda” (i.e. in line with local community wishes).
