Short description: A joint government and construction industry initiative is being consulted upon by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform with a view to improving the sustainability of construction. The strategy includes targets for waste to reduce waste to landfill by 50 percent of 2005 levels by 2012, by 2015, zero net waste at construction site level and by 2020 zero waste to landfill. With this in mind this document aims to establish a joint Government and industry Strategy for Sustainable Construction, to • Make a step change in the sustainability of the construction industry and then to drive continuous improvement; • Support the development of a committed, skilled and adaptable workforce and take forward change in the construction industry in order to enhance efficiency; and • Create long term certainty so that industry can innovate and lead internationally in products and services for sustainable construction.
