Long description: The bulletin looks at the treatment of the highly toxic hexavalent form if Chromium (Cr(VI)) and in many casesits transformation to the relatively low toxicity trivalent form of (Cr(III)), a process that typically involves chemical reduction. The process' of treating the Chromium (VI) are then listed under 4 remediation methods; chemical, microbiological, physical and pump & treat. The chemical treatments include; sulpher dioxide, sodium bisulphite and sodium metabisulphite, ferrous sulphate, ferrous ammonium sulphate, zero valent iron, sodium dithionite, calcium polysulphide and metal remediation compound, looking at many of the widely used and some of the minor methods. It then goes though the microbilogical treatment possible, followed by the physical methods including; electrokinetic treatment, soil washing and containment, and finally looks at pump and treat as a possible solution. The bulletin finishs with a short case study of Chromium Ore Processing Residue (COPR) in Glasgow and ends on the next steps that should be taken in the development of remedation methods of materials such as COPR.
