EXTRACT: This consultation paper explains the purpose and scope of the 2006 Groundwater
Directive (“the GwD”), and makes specific proposals for transposition of Article 6 of
the Directive through amendment of the Groundwater Regulations 1998. The
proposed changes to the Regulations are somewhat complex, but ultimately not
great. Essentially the Regulations would cover a slightly wider range of substances,
but would allow more scope for a flexible and risk-based regulatory approach.
