Consultation scope:
A standard permit has one condition which refers to a set (or sets) of standard rules
published on our website. These permits are for low to medium risk activities that do not
require a site-specific assessment of risk provided they meet the rules. They offer flexibility
for the operator, clarity for all on what is expected, are simpler to issue and therefore
cheaper than traditional site-specific, bespoke permits.
The ten rules sets cover:
1. Pet cemeteries (new rules set)
2. Low impact Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive (IPPCD)
installations (new).
3. Low impact installations specifically for the production of biodiesel (new).
4. Combustion of biogas in engines at a sewage treatment works (new).
5. Inert and excavation waste transfer station (new, with increased tonnage limit
compared with existing rules sets).
6. Inert and excavation waste transfer station with treatment (new, with increased
tonnage limit compared with existing rules sets).
7. Storage of furnace ready scrap metal for recovery (new, with increased tonnage
limit compared with existing rules sets).
8. The disposal of inert extractive wastes at mines and quarries (new).
9. Clinical waste and healthcare waste transfer station (revised).
10. Clinical waste and healthcare waste treatment and transfer station (revised).
