The Cinca is a tributary of Ebro River in northern Spain, which receives inputs of effluent from a range of industrial activities. One of these uses DDT as an intermediate in the production of dicofol. This study evaluated DDT contamination in the Cinca River. Sampling sites were selected up- and downstream from this point source of the pollution. Sediments and fish were collected in 2002 and analyzed using a novel selective pressurized liquid extraction (SPLE) method. DDT and its metabolites were found in sediments and fish at levels ranging from 9 to 94 ìg kg−1 dry weight (d.w.) and from below limits of detection to 2098 ìg kg−1 wet weight (w.w.), respectively.
