Long description: Fish and sediments from four sampling sites in the Cinca River in the Ebro basin in Spain were analyzed for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). PBDEs and HBCD were found in both sediments and fish samples (Barbus graellsi). The lowest values for both were found upstream of an industrial facility. Of 40 congeners (from mono- to deca-BDEs) included in the analytical work, 8 PBDE congeners were detected in river sediments and 17 different PBDEs were found in fish samples, in which they were found to be highly bioavailable, with the exception of deca-BDE which was only detected in sediment samples.
