This training package (containing PowerPoint presentations and notes, a handbook and reference materials) is designed to facilitate the preparation of the mitigation component of the national communications by non-Annex I teams based on UNFCCC guidelines contained in the annex to decision 17/CP.8. The training materials include the following presentations:
a) Role of mitigation assessments within the UNFCCC including, the basic concepts, the primary steps and technical methods involved in carrying out mitigation assessments;
b) Practical application of the commonly used methods and tools together with their advantages, limitations, data and technical requirements in each sector;
c) Determining the costs of implementing mitigation options;
d) Integration of mitigation activities into sustainable development programmes;
e) Reporting of information by sector, in the national communications.
