Short description: The monitoring of biological elements is a key aspect of the assessment of chemical and ecological status as part of the Water Framework Directive. The definition of biological reference conditions in rivers is the overall aim of the PAEQANN project. This report provides a summary of all the existing biological methods of river quality assessment and of the predictive models as an assessment of the state of art.
