Water and sanitation-->Water and sanitation Overview

Short description: In Greece and in many other Mediterranean countries, demand for freshwater is continuously increasing due to the development of tourism. In this context, water could soon no longer be available in vast amounts, and at low costs, for agriculture. As a result, alternative freshwater resources for irrigation must be found and wastewater reuse is being considered in a number of experimental and field scale applications. Most efforts have focused on finding the best practical, viable and safe ways to use these resources but there are gaps in the evaluation of public perception of this practice. Such evaluation is of great importance in order to anticipate the public response to wastewater reuse programmes.
