Summary:
The Concerted Action on Brownfield and Economic Regeneration Network (CABERNET) is a multidisciplinary network comprising of 8 expert stakeholder groups that aims to facilitate new practical solutions for urban brownfields. CABERNET shall enhance the rehabilitation of brownfield sites, according the context of sustainable development of European cities, by the provision of an intellectual framework for coordinated research and development of tools.

Achieved Objectives:
The CABERNET group of involved stakeholders (including financiers, technology suppliers, academics and other researchers, landowners, developers, regulators and policy makers, local authorities, community interaction groups, and professional advisors)
1. achieved a better awareness and shared understanding,
2. organized the collection of information on baseline positions,
3. identified key issues.
The Working Groups consisting of mixed stakeholders
1. could achieve a better awareness and shared understanding across stakeholders,
2. reviewed on a multi-disciplinary basis key sustainability and cross cutting issues in relation to brownfields
The obtained results from the working groups and stakeholder groups were integrated into a final report highlighting a holistic perspective of the state of the art and existing research gaps.

Summary
Finding solutions for brownfield sites is an increasingly important part of effective policies aimed at a sustainable future for land and in particular cities. In order to facilitate new practical solutions for urban brownfields development a set of approaches and tools were developed for
1. improving awareness and enhancing understanding of brownfield issues across the professional disciplines,
2. developing a conceptual model for brownfield issues,
3. highlighting research gaps and proposing coordinated research activities across different sectors and countries,
4. identifying best practice approaches and other valuable tools for practitioners.
