DIAC Dioxin Analysis using Comprehensive Gas Chromatography

Country: European Union
Start Date:   1/10/2001         Duration: 30 months         Project Type: RTD
Contract Number:
Organisation Type:  University research group / research institute
Topics:
Diffuse pollution-->Contaminants-->Contaminants overview
Diffuse pollution-->Diffuse pollution overview
Project objectives:
'The objective of the DIAC project is to develop, optimise and validate a method for the quantitative analysis of dioxins, furans and PCBs in food, feed and environmental
matrices using comprehensive multidimensional Gas Chromatography (GCxGC) with Electron Capture Detection (ECD) as an alternative for the GC-HRMS method.'
(extract from project website)
Project Summary:
DIAC consists of five work packages (WP). WP1 focuses on the optimisation of the GCxGC system comparing different GCxGC modulator systems and selecting the
appropriated stationary phases for the GC systems. In the second year the main focus is on the quantification aspects of GCxGC-ECD. WP2 will compare the results
of GCxGC-ECD for standard solutions, food, feed and environmental samples with the HRMS results. WP3 will invstigate means of reducing costs and labour through
methods to reduce sample intake and / or extraction and clean-up steps to minimise work and reduce costs. The fourth package examines alternative MS methods
(WP4) while WP5 is dedicated to dissemination of results.
